Thoughts come whenever and wherever they want. We need to write down and remember them.
I feel it is so important to write down the thoughts you have.
In the past I've had a few thoughts come to me during sleep or while I was trying to sleep, I chose not to write them down and forgot them.
Other times I have had thoughts that I would write down and then forget them, but I could always go back and look and ponder them.
